Community

BoatsOnslow County has over 30 miles of beach along its borders. We have excellent schools, a rich culture, beautiful scenery and there are also a lot of fun things to do! Aside from enjoying the sandy beaches, Onslow County has campgrounds, museums, golf courses, fishing locations and so much more.

Camp Lejeune

Since 1941, Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune has been a home to thousands of active duty military personnel and their families. Named after 13th Commandant of the US Marine Corps, John A. Lejeune; Camp Lejeune’s 11 miles of beach is home to one of the largest amphibious assault training sites for the US Military. 74% of Camp Lejeune’s population is in the armed forces living on the base itself, or in the surrounding areas. The Camp has its own High School, Lejeune High School, operated by the Department of Defense Education for students of families who either live on base, or are on the waiting list to live on base.

Jacksonville

The city of Jacksonville makes up the largest population in Onslow County. Although settlements around this area started in the around the mid 1700’s, the city of Jacksonville was not incorporated until 1842. Named after the seventh President of the United States, Jacksonville’s major industry back in the day consisted of naval stores, lumber and tobacco. Covering 45.2 square miles of eastern North Carolina, the Jacksonville that we know today is a much different place. A census taken in 2000 showed the population of Jacksonville at 66,715 people, which is a 122% increase from its population 10 years before in 1990. Jacksonville is home to Camp Lejeune and the Marine Corps Air Station New River but while the military is still a strong part of the culture, Jacksonville’s major industry is now in retail sales.

Topsail

The 26 mile long Topsail Island consists of three small towns. To the northern end is North Topsail Beach, to the South is Topsail Beach and in the center is Surf City, which serves as the largest town on the island. The island was named after a time when pirates trolled the seas of the area. Merchant ships would look for the tops of the pirate ship sails in order to avoid the hiding places where pirates would forage their ships and steal their cargo. Located in between the city of Wilmington to its south and Jacksonville to its north, Topsail Island’s beaches, small town atmosphere and rich culture are enjoyed by vacationers, families and retirees alike.

Education

Being a parent myself, I understand that one of the key factors in a family decision to choose the location of their home is to find a school that fits their children’s needs. Luckily, Onslow County has some of the best schools in North Carolina. Whether you are interested in finding an ROTC program, advanced classes, special needs schools or learning about school ratings and class sizes; I can target your home search according to your family’s needs.
