It could be something as simple as chicken and rice. It is the smell of cooking that permeates the house which helps it feel like home. Not to say that the smell of chicken will linger in your home forevermore, but by bringing fresh smells, especially those of your own favorite dishes, you start to infuse the house with scents that are essentially home. Smell is the sense most closely tied to memory, after all. So once your house no longer smells sterile and boring, it has truly become your home.
